Our Mission
Our mission is simple - to provide unconditional support to young men, by helping them play sports throughout their school career, in order to encourage them to choose the right path in life. We believe that by doing so, we can help these kids see that they are important, and they matter, and give them the confidence to believe in themselves and see a bright future ahead.
We came up with this idea based on several personal experiences, beginning with Laura volunteering at St Joseph’s Home for Children in Mpls back in the early 2000’s. Laura would read bedtime stories to boys (8-12yrs) who had no family - wards of the state. She saw a consistency in all of them - the need for unconditional love and support - that the system just couldn’t provide, no matter how hard they tried. One boy in particular wanted to play football “on a real team” so badly, but he kept getting shuffled around from foster home to shelter, and never had the resources to actually play on an organized team. She also realized that lots of these boys didn’t have anyone in their lives who were consistently there for them just because they loved them… most of their support system were paid social workers and teachers, and this bothered some of the kids.
We believe that one of most important things we can give to these young men is a consistent, encouraging support system in their lives. We believe that by participating in sports (particularly football), they will be surrounded by athletes, who will help them choose a healthy and productive lifestyle over destructive things like drugs and crime. We also think that football, in particular, offers unique advantages to young men, because of the nature of the coaching and programs - they will learn to be part of a team, understand the value of hard work and dedication. Our hope is that these young men will break the cycle.
